Traditionally, Ethiopian silversmiths hand make their jewellery using the lost wax method. The designed piece is moulded with wax, encased in clay and left in the sun to dry. Hot metal is poured into a hole at the top of the casing. This metal melts the wax inside, taking the shape of the wax. The cast is broken to retrieve the jewellery after the metal has cooled.
Cast from an Ethiopian antique trinket, sourced from a market in Addis Ababa and cast using hte lost-wax method in brass. Dipped in gold 22k. Strung on nylon chord with gold plated beads.
