The Dinka tribe live in the savanna, along the Nile, primarily in South Sudan. Body adornment made from organic material such as seeds, bone, shell, wood or ivory, plays a significant role indicating age and status and is seldom just ornamental; rituals and ceremonies play a large part.
These earrings were originally spotted in Africa Adorned, photographed by Angela Fisher. Originally carved from ivory and decorated with small circles chiseled with tools in the late 19th century. Reinterpreted in brass and gold plated.
