Wood opal is essentially petrified wood with blue opal. Originally discovered in 2017 in West Java, Indonesia in an ancient forest near three of Indonesia’s volcanoes where volcanic lava flowed and over time, petrified and preserved organic matter. Once the trees’ organic material (the wood) actually decomposed, which took thousands of years, it was replaced with opaline silica. The water in that silica was very rich in dissolved copper, iron, and manganese. Those mineral deposits are now found inside this blue opal which give the stone its variety of colors
Ethically sourced from a family in Java, Indonesia, the gemstone is hand carved into a square, set in a brass bezel and gold plated 22 karat.
All our gemstone earrings are one-of-a-kind pieces where no two earrings will be identical.
