The cotton Baule coat is designed in collaboration with a Kenyan textile company that sources organic cotton from Uganda, combined with traditional Baule mudcloth, which is made from handwoven cotton fabric that is dyed using fermented mud from Ivory Coast.
To make the cotton, a spooling machine is used to wind the yarn on a spool, a cylinder that holds the yarn which is fixed into a shuttle. The shuttle is passed through the shed interlace the threads, thereby creating the woven fabric which is slightly heavier in weight.
To make Mudcloth, the cotton fabric is first woven on a loom by skilled artisans, then, the cloth is treated with natural dye from special plants & trees.
